Accountant

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Purpose:

The Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensure appropriate control procedures.

 

Duties:

  1. Prepare, compile and analyse financial information for financial statements including monthly and annual accounts.

  2. Ensure financial records and practices are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.

  3. Analyse revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.

  4. Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.

  5. Prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.

  6. Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

  7. Prepare profit and loss statements and cost accounting reports.

  8. Interpret financial statements to show problems as well as any areas that are successful.

  9. Appraise, evaluate, and inventory real property and equipment, recording information such as the property’s description, value, and location.

  10. Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.

  11. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end Manager’s report.

  12. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.

  13. Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.

  14. Explain billing invoices and accounting principles to staff, vendors and clients.

  15. Recommend, develop and maintain financial databases, computer software systems and manual filing systems.

  16. Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company’s automated financial systems.

  17. Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits in a timely manner.

  18. Must be able to use Quickbooks.

  19. Other duties as assigned.
